Items

A crowbar multiplies the strength of a person as a level. A sword cuts much better than a fist. Food can provide sustenance that a person cannot live without. Equipment are the bread and butter of adventurers. Without them, a traveller locks themselves out of options that would otherwise be easily accesible to them.

Equipping

To use an item, a creature must first equip the item. This could mean to either hold it in their hands or to wear it on their person. When draw an item, you can take the Use Item (Draw/Stow) action to place it in your hand. However, to wear an item is more involved.

Using an Item

During their turn, a creature can spend 3 seconds to perform the Interact action to use an item that is currently in their hand or in an empty space within Reach. If the item is in a bag, they can perform the same action to draw the item from whatever storage first before taking the action again to use the item.

Carrying vs Wielding vs Wearing

An item will only provide its benefits when it is used correctly.

  • Carrying. You are considered to be carrying an Item if it is anywhere on your person. This usually takes some of your Physical Capacity
  • Wielding. You are considered to be wielding an Item if it is in your hand or any prehensile limb.
  • Wearing. You are considered to be wearing an Item if it is worn on your person. Sometimes, an item on provides its benefits when it is worn. To wear an Item, a creature can take the Interact (Wear) action. Some items have the Intricate property that extends the duration to wear an item to minutes.

Item Sizes

A creature can use any item that is equal to or smaller Size than them without any penalties. If the items are larger than its wielder, the items are treated as if they have the Heavy property. The effective Heavy value for the item will be the Size difference + its existing Heavy value (if any).

For example, a human warrior has Might 1 and is a Size 1 creature. They are attempting to use a Greatsword which is a Size 2 weapon. Normally, a Size 1 crature that swings a Greatsword will make a Martial Might check with 1 Disadvantage due to the size difference. However, the warrior has Might 1 which negates the penalty.
