Timeline

In the chaos of battle or while trapped in a burning house, every second matter. Every action taken means other actions are not taken. Time advances and complications can happen at any time. To avoid being confused on how to resolve the events, Home Defiant keeps tracks events on a timeline.

In a timeline, a time scale will need to be decided. Most of the time, a timeline will only be used during Encounter Time. However, other timescales can also use the timeline if exact events needs to be kept track.

Turn Order

Next, each creature that is a part of the timeline will need to find a timeslot to act their turn. In the beginning of a timeline, all creatures in the timeline should make a Focus + Martial check. Creatures with the highest number of hits will go act immediately while the second highest will go 1 time slot later, the third will go 2 time slots later and so on. Creatures with the same number of hits are placed in the same timeslot.

If multiple creatures in the same timeslot, both creatures act at the same time. However, actions are resolved one creature at a time. To determine which creature goes first, use the following attributes as the tie breaker.

  1. Focus Attribute
  2. Dexterity Attribute
  3. A roll off. The Fates will roll a dice and one of the creatures needs to call Hit or a Miss. If the guess is correct, then that player goes first.

Not A Necessity

Note that determining turn order, is not needed when playing in Standard, Danger or Down Time. In those time scales, all creatures can take start in the same timeslot and creatures in the same timeslot can take their turns together. Only when it is important to determine the order of action will the Turn Order check be rolled between the creatures executing the action. Once completed, the turn order can be forgotten and play resumes as before.

Taking actions

In Home Defiant, each action has a timeslot cost. Some can take seconds, others can take minutes or hours to perform. During your turn in a timeline, you can take a any number of actions as long as the total time taken is less than or equal to 6 timeslots. After you are done taking your turn, you will move your turn down the same amount of timeslots that you spend on your turn. This means if you spend less time on your turn, you can take your next turn earlier.

Long Actions

If you do not have enough time to complete the action, you can spend the rest of the time needed on your next turn. However, if you are attacked before your next turn, you must perform a Might + Survival and match the number of hits the attacker rolled. On a failure, the action fails and time and resources that were already spent is wasted.
